Penguins Make Switch At Goalie; Islanders To Face Vokoun In Game 5

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are turning to backup goaltender Tomas Vokoun.

Coach Dan Bylsma says Vokoun will be in net for Game 5 on Thursday night when the Penguins resume their first-round playoff series with the Islanders. The series is tied 2-2 after the Islanders rallied for a 6-4 victory in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh starter Marc-Andre Fleury made just 18 saves in the loss.

“I’m not happy, that’s for sure,” Fleury said after the game. “It’s frustrating.”

Vokoun excelled against the Islanders during the regular season, going 3-0 while stopping 98 of 101 New York shots but the 36-year-old has just a 3-8 career playoff record.

Bylsma said Vokoun can be “great” for the Penguins but the team needs to be more responsible defensively after letting the speedy Islanders outwork them for numerous scoring chances over the last three games.
